Improved constraints on marine processes

Leader : Commissariat a l'Energie Atomique (Dr Laurent Bopp)

The overall objecting of WP2 is improved constraints on marine biogeochemical processes through targeted model evaluation, with a major focus on the ecological aspects of marine biogeochemical cycles. Specific tasks will focus on:

  1. Representing marine phytoplankton dynamics in clean biogeochemical models using new datasets as constraints, and the impact of climate change on the distribution of key phytoplankton functional groups.
  2. Assessing the role of the microbial loop in oceanic biogeochemical cycles (in particular its contribution to climate-carbon feedbacks) using laboratory work, data synthesis, and modelling.
  3. Representation of the marine nitrogen cycle through improving existing models and using new datasets, and assessing its importance in marine biogeochemistry-climate feedbacks.

Science Projects:

2.1 - Modelling marine ecosystems

2.2 - Ocean phytoplankton functional group distribution in data and models

2.3 - Marine plankton production

2.4 - Modelling the nitrogen cycle in the ocean

2.5 - Impacts of future climate change on marine phytoplankton
