Current
Research: Ecosystem processes in Mediterranean and
Mountain zones
The
purpose of this project is to improve dynamic global vegetation
model representations of processes important in Mediterranean
and mountain ecosystems. This early-stage researcher position
is focused on ecosystem physiology and carbon-water interactions
in the Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l'Environment
(Gif-sur-Yvette CEDEX, France) using the ORCHIDEE
model, which is a component of the coupled IPSL GCM, and
is used to study feedbacks between terrestrial ecosystems
and the atmosphere. ORCHIDEE will be further developed, and
validated, to incorporate ecosystem physiology processes important
in Mediterranean climates with strong seasonality in soil
moisture. Comparisons with other available models will be
performed within the network in collaboration with other GREENCYCLES
partners (CREAF - Barcelona (Spain) and Centre for Alpine
Ecology, Trento (Italy)). The researcher will also collaborate
with other members of the host group in the collection and
interpretation of field data to investigate uncertainties
in responses of ecosystems to climate change in these Mediterranean
Ecosystems.
