GREENCYCLESII

T3.1 Modelling terrestrial ecosystems

The Met Office Hadley Centre is the Climate Research department within the UK Met Office. It performs state of the art climate monitoring and modelling, including modelling of the biogeochemical components of the Earth System. Extensive use is made of coupled climate modelling (e.g. with our HadGEM2 Earth System model) and off-line land surface modelling (JULES).

Under GreenCycles II, the Met Office Hadley Centre will participate in the work package to improve constraints on terrestrial ecosystem processes through targeted model evaluation. Extensive use will be made of the new observational datasets derived elsewhere in GCII.

This Experienced Researcher position will perform a Terrestrial ecosystem model evaluation ("TERREMIP"), under the secondary supervision of (including a placement at) the Department of Geography at the University of Cambridge, and in close collaboration with world leading ecosystem experts at the University of Leeds.

TERREMIP will be a highly cross-cutting activity drawing on data and expertise from across GCII and will utilise a common methodology developed in close collaboration with T2.1 ("MAREMIP"). Model evaluation will target the terrestrial components of models used by network partners and will exploit data from coupled GCM simulations submitted to the IPCC AR5 multi-model database.

More information will be made available on this website later this year.
